Search engine Optimization (SEO) is a process in which the site and content is structured in such a way that the website will be visible at a higher position than his competitors in the search engines. A proper keyword research is essential to boost the traffic of the website. An important thing in keyword research is that you should know the ways other people would be searching your content and we have to be sure that what they have searched for and what they get in our content is same.
How To Do Keyword Research?
Usually landing pages are your home page and specific internal pages like general categories, subcategories and product pages.
Once the landing pages and their specific topics have been finalized then the next step is to come up with a short list of keywords for each page and page type. Just rely on your common sense and try to imagine that if you are the customer and what you will search for and make a list.
3.Check keyword popularity with Google keyword tool
Copy and paste the list in Google Keyword Tool (GKT). It is the most important tool in the whole process of keyword research. It will give the estimate average number of searches for all the keywords from the list and also helps in finding new keywords. Once you have measured the search volume then the keywords with zero volume is discarded as they are irrelevant. Add the other keywords which are relevant and make another list.
Now you need to expand the list by the other keywords which are good and remove the most competitive ones as it is hard initially to come up with the competitors already there in the market. The main tasks to be followed during competitive analysis are:
i)finding strong sites and your direct competitors
At first go to Google and search the best keywords from the list 2 and find 2 to 3 strong competitors using data provided by SEO Quake Firefox extension.
For this you should scan Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) for particular keywords, discard a keyword if top 20 is all occupied by old and powerful sites.
After doing competitor analysis we have found some more keywords and include those keywords into the list 2 and name it list 3.
Check the list 3 once again with Google Keyword Tool to throw out the keywords with low search volume and again check them in SEO Quake extension turned on to see the level of competition, scan and evaluate their quantity. And then you get the final list of keywords.
